Now all we need is an Indy Car, right in the middle...

EARTHQUAKE!!

I woke up this morning shortly after 5:40 (at least, that's what our alarm clock says - David has it set a few minutes fast). The bed was shaking. I heard a noise - the sound of an off balance washing machine, as a news anchor so appropriately put it... I turned over and went back to sleep. I thought it was all a dream.

About an hour and a half later, when the alarm went off, the radio was playing "I Feel the Earth Move" by Carole King. They're saying it was a 5.2 magnitude, centered in Southern Illinois - just on the other side of the Indiana border. It was felt as far away as Chicago, Des Moines, and Good Ol' Indianapolis. Read more here...

EDIT 11:15: AHH!! AFTERSHOCK!! :D this one was 4.5

The ground was rolling underneath me, the frames were rattlin' on the walls! hehehe, too fun (just don't get any bigger, please!)

First taste of spring

Yesterday started off like any other Sunday. We caught up on some TiVo. Watched some Food Network. Ate Lunch. Around 2pm, both of us were starting to get antsy. We peeked outside, the sun was out – it was in the 50’s. We decided it was a perfect day to go Motoring.

I grabbed the camera, David grabbed the GPS. We set out for a little adventure. We had the sunroofs open, the windows down. We didn’t go all that far. Down around Zionsville, back through Carmel, up through Fishers, and then ended up at our neighborhood Starbucks for an afternoon coffee and a slice of rice crispie treat out on the patio. It was absolutely beautiful. Roxy said it was 64 degrees. It was a perfect day.

Tonight? We’re under a winter storm watch.

Gotta love Indiana weather.

Winter Storm Warning!!

But, we ventured out anyway. We decided to head downtown Indy. Driving down Meridian Street was absolutely beautiful. The snowflakes were enormous...

For lunch, we went to the Bourbon Street Distillery. Best Pork Tenderloin EVER. We were the only people there, the whole city was quiet. They had the Christmas music blaring. We were watching the snow fall with the downtown skyline as a backdrop. It was so peaceful, so beautiful.

After lunch we headed to the Indiana Historical Society to see the famous Leg Lamp. We walked around looking at the various trees and photos representing Christmases past. We ran into one other couple in the museum. Again, it was like we had the place to ourselves.

My favorite part of the day was leaving the IHS, driving through downtown Indy. Around Military park, with it's huge snow covered trees. By Victory Field, the old buildings, around Monument Circle. The Christmas music on the Satellite radio, the snow falling so heavy - It was like we were driving through a movie.

Long, Difficult Summer

Nothing much has been going on in la casa de Ali y Dave. Things are finally calming down after a very long summer.

As most of you might know, Dave spent the majority of the summer in California for business reasons. I made a couple of trips to visit him, but for the most part we spent our time together on the phone or chatting online. Even though the time apart was stressful and lonely, it was for the best.
________

Last weekend we attended our first Hoosier football game (they won, unlike our Cats. boo). It was fun to get out and tailgate - and the weather couldn't have been any better. Bloomington is absolutely beautiful this time of year.
________

Heading into the holidays has been very emotional this year. It's now been 7 weeks since I last spoke with my dad. I haven't picked up my camera much since then, hence the lack of updates. Right now, I am just living life day to day. Surviving. Hopefully soon the motivation will strike, and I'll be looking through the viewfinder once again. Until then, you'll find us rocking out to GHIII.

It's August in Indiana

...Which means two things: It's hot, and it's State Fair Time.

Yesterday, Dave and I decided to brave the heat and experience our First Indiana State Fair in the 3+ years that we have lived here.

Besides the unbearable heat (even though at 94 degrees, yesterday was the coolest day of the week), we had a good time exploring the never ending supply of deep fried foods.

Indiana State Fair Midway

Does anyone else find it weird that this is served at the Indiana State Fair??

Hot Wisconsin Cheese

We shared what had to be the largest corn dog ever served, and a turkey leg that acted like super glue on Dave's fingers - the napkin stuck and wouldn't come off.

Friday night, we decided to try out a new restaurant not far from our house - best.hushpuppies.ever. So good, in fact, they won the Indiana State Fair Competition for best corn dish. mmmm.

Corn Fritter Heaven

We decided that we'd steer clear of the food from this booth:

Deep Fried Indiana

Just looking at the photo makes my heart hurt.

The weekend, part deux

My creation

We were really busy this weekend! I wrote about the new table yesterday, but totally forgot to post a photo of the food! How Dare I!?!?! (mmm. doesn't it look delish!)

Yesterday we met up with our volleyball team and some other friends for a few rounds of sand volleyball. We had fun, though I came home a little more pink that I had hoped. :P

After volleyball, we went to another friends house. She and I are going to start making frames and hopefully (eventually) sell some photos in them. That's a photo of our first frame ever. Not too shabby, eh?

The New Table

The New Table
Originally uploaded by alibree.
Yesterday, we finally bought a table for the screened in porch! We've been looking at them for some time now, but never really found something that we liked. A few weeks ago we found this one. This weekend, the weather finally decided to cooperate. We spent the afternoon outside, cleaning the porch, putting the table together and grilling our first backyard dinner. :)

April 15th

This weekend we had a few friends over to celebrate the end of our volleyball season.

Of course, the Wii is always a major attraction at our house. Here's some video of Erin & Al boxing each other, in case you haven't seen it in action.

Not too long after that was shot, we busted out a karaoke machine. I am sure our entire neighborhood could hear us singing. :) This is our friend Travis (I am sure he would die if he knew I uploaded this for all the world to see)
