2 Years.

Eli,

Today is a big day. Today, you turned 2 years old. No longer do we count your age in months. From here on out, it’s years. Years. How did this happen?

I can't believe it's been two years since that long day in the hospital. And man, was that a looooong day.

This month, we’ve spent a lot of time outside in the yard. Our friends here in Indiana all gathered together with us to plant a tree in memory of my parents, your Grandpa and Grandma Baker. You love to run into the back yard and show us the tree, almost as much as you love running back there to pick up rocks to put in your dump truck. I cannot wait until that tree overlooks a luscious, green lawn; one that you will be able to play in for years to come.

Football season is here again. We’ve had a lot of football on the TV lately, since we’ve been lucky enough to have a few K-State games available. Mommy and Daddy are very passionate about their Wildcat Football games. When a player has the ball, you love to shout, “Go! Run!” It’s hard to say whether you picked that up from Mama or Dada, but it’s super cute - no matter what team you’re rooting for. (Unless it’s the Jayhawks. That’s forbidden).

You’ve shown a real interest in building things with your Lego’s this month. This has made Daddy very happy. There is nothing sweeter than watching you on the floor working intently on building something. You love to make really tall cars. You love to make airplanes (or have Daddy build one for you).

We started a new Sunday morning tradition in our house this month. Each week, we wake up, come downstairs and you help mommy make pancakes. You love to help stir the batter, and you’re pretty good at it, too. It won’t be long until you’re flipping the pancakes for mommy!

I have to admit that today was pretty hard for me. I would have loved nothing more than to be able to share the joy of your second birthday with my mom, your Grandma Baker. I know she would have been so excited to share this day with you.

This year has had lots of ups and lots of downs, but we’ve made it through, thanks to you. I love you more and more each day. I am so proud of the little boy you are becoming.

We love you so much, Eli.
