We have no clue what happened - if someone hit it, they did so in a very inconspicuous way, because the mailbox itself is intact. It was still upright when we left for work this morning, and there's a lot of construction still going on around here (though construction traffic is "prohibited" on the street we live on. ha.) So, we've called the Post Office and alerted them to hold our mail. Hopefully we can get this taken care of by Friday (Yay! for 4 day weekends!!)
